Ma Lin ends three year title drought

The charismatic Ma Lin of China, who was without a Pro tour Table Tennis title since May 2008, clinched the Volkswagen China Open 2011 title beating Ma Long in the finals.

Ma Lin won in six games 10-12, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-6. In the semi-finals, he beat Wang Hao.

The biggest upset in the tournament was the defeat of the newly crowned World Champion, Zhang Jike by Seo Hyun Deok in the pre-quarter final round.

Ma Lin is the reigning Olympic champion, but is not eligible to defend his title at the London Olympic games of 2012.

Sanmay wins a spectacular double

Sanmay Paranjape was the star of the PN Gadgil Maharashtra State Ranking tournament held at Deccan Gymkhana Pune.

Sanmay won both the Men's and the Youth Boy's crowns.

Anirban Roy Chowdhury in action

The Karnataka Table Tennis Association recently honoured players who brought accolades at the national level. Shreyal Telang, Akshay Mahunta, V P Charan, Vedanth M Urs, R Harshith and Sunand Vasan were given cash prizes and also a high quality blade and rubber each.

This is an amazing way to encourage budding talent. We hope that many other associations follow suit.

Andy Murray lost 1-2 to Tsonga at Table Tennis during a rain delay at the Queen's tournament, but beat his talented rival 2-1 at Tennis to win the warm up event for Wimbledon.

Ovtcharov completely dominated Rio de Janerio

Top seed Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany won the Brazil Open Table Tennis Tournament in commanding fashion. Throughout the tournament, he did not lose a single set!
In the finals too, he beat Portugal’s Marcos Freitas, the no.7 seed in straight sets 11-9, 11-5, 11-5, 11-7.

 Wang Yuegu won the women's title beating Li Jiawei 11-9, 11-7, 5-11, 11-5, 11-8.
