An interesting Table Tennis contest recently took place in Shenyang, China. It was a duel of Penhold grip vs Shakehand grip players! Some of the world's top players took part in it.

Timo Boll, Ma Long and Zhang Jike played for the shakehanders while Ma Lin, Wang Hao and Ryu Seung Min represented the penholders.

Shakehanders! won a close battle 3-2.

Results of Maharashtra State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at Dombivli 2011

Kavish Nagpal (MSD) was the surprise semi-finalist in the Cadet boy's section at the Dombivli Maharashtra State Ranking tournament. Sharvari Baradkar also caused a minor upset in the Cadet Girls section.

Sneha Patil and Nachiket Patel caused major upsets in the Sub junior girls and boys sections by beating Manasi Chajed and Advait Brahme (both of Pune). Sneha and Nachiket reached the quarter finals.

Shreyal is the star at Canara Union State-ranking table tennis tourney

Shreyal grabbed an extra-ordinary double at the Canara Union State-ranking table tennis tournament by winning the Men's and Youth Boy's singles titles. Ironically, he lost in the semi finals of the Junior Boy's singles.

Ma Lin ends three year title drought

The charismatic Ma Lin of China, who was without a Pro tour Table Tennis title since May 2008, clinched the Volkswagen China Open 2011 title beating Ma Long in the finals.

Ma Lin won in six games 10-12, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-6. In the semi-finals, he beat Wang Hao.

The biggest upset in the tournament was the defeat of the newly crowned World Champion, Zhang Jike by Seo Hyun Deok in the pre-quarter final round.

Ma Lin is the reigning Olympic champion, but is not eligible to defend his title at the London Olympic games of 2012.

Sanmay wins a spectacular double

Sanmay Paranjape was the star of the PN Gadgil Maharashtra State Ranking tournament held at Deccan Gymkhana Pune.

Sanmay won both the Men's and the Youth Boy's crowns.
