Bona Thomas John promoting the game
Name: Bona Thomas John
City: Bengaluru
Achievements:
International Player in the last decade of the last millenium.
Won National level titles
Beat almost all top players of India in his prime.
I believe this is in the Railway cantonment area. Not very sure if it is open to all. Please write to editor@tabletennisbug.com we are trying to find out from the couple of players who train there.
I know for sure that Bangalore had always the best TT players including C.R.Anand , JK Vishnuath and Bona Thomas. Bangalore could be a role model for rest of India for improving table tennis and use the knowledge and experience of players such as Bona Thomas. More resources must be allocated to Bangalore specially in those areas where there is not TT facilities. Look ate around the world: many nations allocate a great percentage of GDP to sport(s).Which country spends the most on sports? China with 37.3 billion U.S. dollars and is followed by the United States (18.5 billion U.S. dollars), Government financial support for sports in Sweden amounts to more than SEK 2 billion or approximately $187 million USD , Germans spend at least EUR 103 billion on sport every year. These are examples of their GDP and how much money is allocated to sports. Paris Olympics 2024 shows the vivid result, it says it all.
@Amir Hooshang, good to hear from you. You've listed some good points about Karnataka Table tennis and about sports systems and policies in other countries. We'd love to hear more from you. I think I've watched you play Table tennis in the 1980s and 1990s, so obviously you have deep knowledge about TT.
Nice to hear from you my good friend: Menas. I think government in both Federal and Provincial levels could take some Bold steps by providing more funds for sport particularly Table Tennis and likewise sports. Even a five years old kid knows Health is the most fundamental of every society (Nations). How much money most nations spend of buying weapons (arms) instead of spending for sport which has direct effect of our health. Better the health better the Nation. Better sports> better Health> better education> better the Nation. What I mean all these are related to one another. Sports, Health and education. One world ,one nation.
Where is this location in Bangalore? Is the Club open for all? how is the membership?
