Amalraj overcomes Sharath's challenge to win the South Zone National Ranking at Dharwad

A Amalraj wins the Men's singles finals at the South Zone National Ranking Table Tennis tournament. 

He beat world no. 47, A Sharath Kamal 4-3 in the finals.

Earlier this year, Amalraj was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award.

Amalraj, Manika bag titles

Anthony Amalraj - the quickest Indian TT player
Two big upsets on the final day of the Inter Institutional Championships 2011.

Amalraj beat India's only truly International player, Sharath Kamal 4-3 (10-12,14-12,11-5,4-11,4-11,11-6,11-7). Manika Batra beat Poulomi Ghatak 4-3 (7-11,8-11,11-5,11-9,11-7,8-11,13-11).

Amalraj went on to bag a double crown by winning the Men's doubles with partner Jubin Kumar

Sharath withdraws, Soumyadeep spearheads team

In the absense of Sharath Kamal, who had to withdraw from the Chile Open due to an illness, Soumyadeep leads the team, which starts its main matches today. Sanil faces a tough customer in Mancini.

The Indian women and men face South American challenge in the first round with many of them facing players from Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. A few of them should be able to make it to the pre quarterfinals, where the competition gets tougher.

Timo Boll is World No. 1 after a 8 year gap

Breaking News! Timo Boll of Germany ascended to the No. 1 spot in the Table Tennis World Rankings after a gap of 8 years. Ma Long slips to the 2nd spot.

India's shining star, Sharath Kamal is on the 40th spot in the list.
However, the biggest news for India from the lists are the huge jumps by Soumyajit Ghosh, Gnanasekharan Sathiyan, and Harmeet Desai, who occupy the 29th, 40th and 44th position in the Under 18 Boy's section.
Mallika Bhandarkar and Manika Batra have also moved up impressively in the Girl's U-18 section.

Table Tennis News Bites - Sharath Kamal Updates

As we know, right now Sharath is playing in the German league for TSV Gräfelfing in the prestigious 1st Division Table Tennis league in Germany.

TSV Gräfelfing currently stand 9th in the league.

Sharath will play two more league matches before he comes to India on the 14th December.

Just to repeat, Sharath has been selected to play the Pro Tour Grand Finale at Seoul from 16th December. Only the World's top 16 players are invited for this event!
