Shreyal Telang bags three Table Tennis titles

Shreyal Telang won a triple crown at Karnataka State Ranking Table Tennis tournament at Kushalnagar. He probably created a record by winning Rs. 30000 in total (Can someone please confirm? - 25 000 prize money and 5 000 for Best Player)! Not bad for a 16 year old in less than 4 days!

In the Men's singles final, he beat experienced C K Yatheesh Ck 4-1.

Soumyajit creates another landmark at the Japan Open Table Tennis Open tournament

Clearly, another landmark day in Soumyajit Ghosh's Table Tennis career!
He beat Japan's 2012 National Champion Maharu Yoshimura in a thrilling encounter in the Men's main draw at the Japan Open and then won another good match against the Swedes in the Men's doubles partnering Harmeet Desai. They are in the doubles quarterfinals now.

Here's the significance of Soumyajit's win. Yoshimura beat Mizutani (a World Top Ten player!) to win the Japanese National Championships last year. Past winners of the championships have been big names including Mizutani and now Koki Niwa in 2013.

Sharath Kamal also advanced to the Men's round of 32 with a good win. Both Soumyajit and Sharath play against Taipei players in the Singles. Sharath has a good chance against Lee Chia Sheng but Soumyajit has World no. 26 Chen Chein-An to tackle. We already know that our Bengal Tiger is fearless and will go all out against the very best.

Incidentally, in the doubles, Soumyajit and Harmeet will face the two players that Sharath and Soumyajit beat in the singles first round (Yoshimura/Jin).

Japan Open World Tour Table Tennis - Three Indian men in main draw

Japan Open Table Tennis World Tour updates:

A Sharath Kamal is seeded directly into the main draw.
Soumyajit Ghosh and A Amalraj qualify from group matches.

All three of them have challenging 1st rounds, which will be played tomorrow. Do cheer for them. It is rare to find 3 Indian players in the main draw of a major World Tour (formerly called Pro Tour) event!

Ironically, Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai could not advance in the Men's U 21 section. This is hardly surprising considering that the competition in every single match is cut throat. Both of them did fight it out. Soumyajit Ghosh beat the group topper and Harmeet Desai won two matches and only lost 2-3 to a top Japanese player.

Harmeet, Sanil, Soumyajit shine at the China Open Table Tennis tournament

India's young players are not respecting World Ranked players anymore! Now, Harmeet Desai has given a great fight to Kenta Matsudaira (who was the star find of this year's World Championships), and Sanil Shetty beat much higher ranked Wu Zhikang. Soumyajit Ghosh narrowly missed winning both his group matches, losing to the World Class Alexey Smirnov in a close match. All this action is going on at the China Open.

It's just a matter of time that they will go all out and start beating the top players and break into the top 100 hopefully soon!

Chinmay Datar and Amish Karamchandani in Pune District Ranking Table Tennis tournament finals

Tomorrow Final Table Tennis match between top seed Chinmay Datar and Amish Karamchandani at the spectacular Balewadi International stadium in Pune. The event is Men's finals. Chinmay survived a tough challenge from Advait Brahme, while Amish prevailed over Chandrashekhar Dev in the semi-finals.

Both competitors are very young and have faced each other quite a few times early in their career and have participated in the National Table Tennis championships. The interesting part is that both are just coming out of grueling study-exam schedules, got less time for practice and still made the finals with true grit! All the best! Finals are 4 PM onwards.
